Ethion
Non-systemic, contact, digestive insecticide and acaricide
Oral LD50: 47-208 mg/kg
Carnes period: 10 days
This pesticide is available in the market under the name of Ethiol EC47%. This insecticide belongs to the group of organophosphorus poisons with contact, digestive and non-systemic properties and with a definite effect on pests. Ethion is used against weevils and aphids of citrus and cold fruit trees. Also, if this insecticide is used together with oil, it is able to destroy the eggs of insects, mites and bedbugs. It is metabolized in the body of animals through the oxidation reaction to phosphorothioate compounds and further by dealkylation and hydrolysis. Its half-life in soil is 90 days.
Mechanism of action:
Ethion is an insecticide and acaricide from the group of organophosphorus poisons with non-systemic properties and a contact and partially digestive effect that acts by inhibiting the cholinesterase enzyme in the nervous system of animals. Acetylcholine acts as a nerve message carrier in the intersynaptic space and causes the stimulation of the next axon. Ethion in the insect's body causes accumulation in the synapse and as a result the stimulation of the next nerve fiber continues continuously, because the cholinesterase enzyme necessary to break down acetylcholine in the intersynaptic space and remove this continuous stimulation is blocked by the ethion poison.
Uses:
Ethion is an insecticide that is used to control all kinds of mites, aphids, thrips, weevils and shields of cold fruit and citrus trees in the amount of 1.5 to 2 liters per thousand liters of water and also against many larvae of butterflies, caterpillars, psyllids and others. Sucking pests are used on grapes, pistachios, vegetables and summer crops, cotton, corn, sorghum, strawberries, ornamental plants, etc. Ethion, together with oil, is effective as a winter spraying solution on trees that are resting and sleeping in winter, in order to destroy the eggs of insects, mites and weevils, and the mobile forms of mites and other wintering species.
Compatibility and mixing:
Ethion can be mixed with most insecticides except alkaline compounds. Also, if it is used correctly on the mentioned items, there is no risk of plant burn on the product (except for some types of apples).
